“Natural” – What Will Actually Help You Lose Weight?

Is a natural approach to weight loss the best way to get results? While losing weight naturally can be the most effective way to shed extra pounds and keep them off, it’s important to understand that the word natural is commonly used to market products that shouldn’t actually be part of a natural approach to losing weight.

Natural Diet Pills are an Oxymoron

If someone wants to lose weight naturally, pills should be the last thing on their mind. However, “natural” diet pills have grown into a very popular product. Putting aside the fact that swallowing pills on a daily basis isn’t a natural way to lose weight, another issue is the pills themselves may be far less natural than most people who buy them think.

Recently, the FDA discovered that twenty different brands of these pills contained a banned drug. The drug in question is sibutramine. The reason the FDA banned this drug is because it’s been linked to strokes and heart attacks.

Failing At Weight Loss

Many popular weight loss programs are designed around the concept of losing weight in stages.

Counselors and dietitians commonly label the stages of weight loss as pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action and maintenance. While these stages are widely accepted as being what people go through when they want to lose weight, are they actually the best approach?

According to a new study, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

A study published in The Cochrane Library found that out of 4,000 people who were guided through this method of weight loss, their average weight loss was less than five pounds. Since none of the research used in the study took into account whether or not participants kept off this weight, relying on stages doesn’t appear to be any more effective than most trendy diets.

Would you like to burn more calories even when you’re not working out? While many products try to increase their sales by making this claim, you don’t need ANY of them to increase your body’s calorie burning. All you need to do is add more muscle to your body by doing resistance exercises.

The reason it’s actually possible to increase the number of calories you burn is because your body has to spend more energy to maintain muscle than it does to maintain fat. Since calories are just a measurement of energy, using more energy means more calories burned.
